I stopped by The Boathouse in Portobello and had the fish and chips – hands down one of the best I’ve ever had. The batter was crispy, golden, and perfectly seasoned, with flaky, fresh fish inside. The chips were spot-on: chunky, fluffy, and piping hot. The location is unbeatable – right by the beach with gorgeous views of the sea, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Staff were friendly, attentive, and made the experience feel special without being over the top. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, The Boathouse is the perfect spot for great food and relaxing vibes. Can’t wait to go back!

Popped down for a quick bite/drinks and ended up having a really lovely night with friends due to the wonderful staff and great atmosphere. The swing-chair tables are great and having a heater for when the sun goes down is perfect. The bartender made us dairy-free pina colada’s which will be my new go-to-drink here

A really great light lunch for two. We had a couple of diet cokes and a bruschetta and loaded nachos to share. Delicious - fast service, fresh, great portion size and very good value.

During my four-day trip to Edinburgh, I had an incredible experience at the Boathouse with Senor Jose. I enjoyed it so much that I went there twice! On my first visit, the atmosphere was quiet, and Senor Jose warmly welcomed us, serving a delicious, mouth-watering Margarita pizza. Sitting by the seaside in the crisp winter breeze, enjoying my favorite food, was truly wholesome. The next day, I returned to the Boathouse and was once again served by Senor Jose and a young lady (sorry, I didn’t catch her name). The food, ambiance, and customer service were all top-notch. It might be the best place to eat at Portobello Beach—just make sure to reserve a seaside table in case it gets busy!

We were thrilled to see the Boathouse reopen, and it did not disappoint! We tried three different types of wood-fired pizza, and they were outstanding. In my opinion, it was some of the best pizza in town; the quality of the dough is unmatched. Although the sun was shining, we appreciated the heaters at the outdoor tables—definitely a thoughtful addition considering Scotland's weather. As always, the ambiance was filled with good vibes and fantastic views. I can’t wait to enjoy the experience during the night!
